“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain

  • The city of Niagara-on-the-Lake...

    Prelude
The day trip to the small city of Niagara-on-the-Lake was an amazing experience. It was my 3rd trip in the summer of 2013. As our searching for interesting places were going on, we decided to explore the nice city and wineries of Niagara-on-the-lake. The city is located on the bank of lake Ontario and Niagara lake, which is close to Niagara falls. Initially we had plans only to cover the city, but suddenly all of us agreed to experience the mystic Niagara falls once again in full moon night when it is decorated with flood lights of rainbow colours. Nevertheless to mention, it was one of the best experiences of my life.

It was about two hours of drive from our city, London. We decided to start around 9 AM and continued to follow highway 401. Had our lunch with McDonald burger filled with Sardine fillet. The drive itself was eye soothing, with picturesque beauties all around. In my life I have hardly seen such a nice, well decorated small town.

We parked the car and started walking because it is the best way to explore the place & also to feel it. The city is full of several world famous wineries. However, we managed time only to enter in one. The winery premises were huge and full of strawberry, olive, palm trees.

Lots of international tourists come here to visit the wineries, which are worth visiting. We visited the Peller estates winery first.

People were testing varieties of wines. They were offering unlimited number of testing in $3 only.

The premises were very well maintained, you can chill out in the patio.

We stayed there for about half an hour and walked towards the harbour area of lake Ontario. It was a chilling sunny morning, & the lake water was looking deep blue.

Very few people were around. The place was very quiet having only the sound of lake water splashing on the harbour rocks repetitively.

The Toronto skyline was visible far away...

After staying there for sometimes we headed to visit Fort George. It was a few kilometres away. When we reached there, noticed something special. Everyone was dressed with strange garments and some exhibition/fair was going on. As we approached further, came to know that the day is a special historical day because in the same date on 1812, the battle of Fort George were fought. That's why they are simulating the environment of 18th century. We were really lucky!

The area was decorated in such a way that anyone can feel that it is 18th century!

It was an amazing experience for us. I have never seen this type of exhibition in my life.

Some people were also behaving just like they are from 18th century. It was really fun. The decorations were very strange and interesting!

Drove back to the downtown area of the city and had some coffee in relaxed mood. The city is really worth to visit. I wish if I had a house there  ;)

Suddenly Mohua di proposed the idea of experiencing Niagara falls at night. Moreover, it was supposed to be a full moon night! It was 5 PM then & we had to wait another 5 hours to get the absolute darkness. But anything can be compromised to experience full moon night Niagara! We spent some time roaming around the calm city roads.

Started driving towards Niagara around 6 PM. It was about 30 Km away. Reached around 6.30 PM. It was my second visit to Niagara. However, every time you will go in front of Niagara, you will fall in love. That day the weather was perfect and Niagara was looking super amazing. As usual, it was full of tourists. Fortunately, two rainbows formed at that time and I didn't make any delay to capture it.

Had some coffee and sandwiches in the meantime and snapped photo with Roni da & Mohua di in front of the famous 'Horseshoe' of Niagara (I didn't save for weeks, was looking like a thief :P).

We were just waiting for the darkness.  Gradually the sun set down and the moon came out. It was so nice that I can't express in words. At that moment I was feeling myself to be the king of the world! I wish if my parents were here. Just mesmerizing!!!  I wish if I had a good camera :(

Suddenly the falls were lightened up with varieties of flood lights (both from Canadian & US side) and it was looking majestic!

I was just spell bounded with the atmosphere. The clock was showing 10 PM and it was really dark then and Niagara was turning more beautiful as the darkness was increasing.

We had to drive back about 230 Km, but were so involved with the scenery that we lost our sense. Around 11 we looked at the watch and got back to reality to realize that its time to go home. But we didn't want to go  :(

Started return journey around 11.30 PM and came back London at 1.45 AM with some unforgettable  memories...
