  • Killarney-Whitefish-Willsville tour...

    Prelude
I had never been to northern Ontario before this trip, only heard about the uniqueness of the natural beauty from many people & was really willing  to go once. As our madness for travelling continued in summer of 2013, we explored a lot of travel plans to find out something special & finally chopped out a 2-days plan at northern areas of province Ontario in Canada, especially to the La-Cloche mountains & Killarney areas. As we are always interested in off-bit & remote destinations, had to gather lot of informations regarding the driving route, place for staying etc. The area we desired to go was actually far away from our city, about 700 Km which would take 7 hours of drive to reach. We booked Widgawa Resort for staying 2 days at Whitefish area a few weeks ahead & fixed the date at 15th of June.

Day 1: 15th June, 2013: We started early in the morning, around 6 AM as it was a drive of almost 7 hours to reach our destination. I had some light food before leaving & carried some fruits to eat on the way. I was waiting outside my house, Ronnie da & Mohua di came to pick me up sharp at 6 o'clock & started our journey. The weather was a bit cold & sunny. After filling the gas in the car & merging in 401 highway,  Ronnie da pushed the accelerator to drive the car at a speed of 120Km/hour through the highway...

Had a heavy breakfast & coffee in the midway & in a few hours entered into northern Ontario area. The roadside sceneries were changing rapidly. It was totally different from what I have seen so far in the Southern part of the province. After crossing Toronto, we were in Trans Canada highway & drove through beautiful Muskoka area. We stopped once beside 'French River' at Sadbury on our way & captured some nice snaps. The weather was awesome at that time!

The scenes were changing more as we drove  further North... the rocky areas beside the road came into the scenario, deers were crossing the road suddenly, roadside trees were showing strange colours etc. etc. Finally we reached Whitefish area around 12.30 PM, but had some problems to find out the resort from the GPS. Mistakenly we entered into a forest & lost our way. It was really horrible because there were bears & other animals too. Somehow we  managed our way back & reached our destined location, Widgawa Lodge. It was nearly like a dream resort with amazing location, environment etc!

The cottage owner (a German woman) greeted us with warm welcome & showed our rooms. I was feeling that I should stay there forever & will never go back...

After getting freshened up, we were starving for lunch. But the cottage didn't have any restaurant facility. They told us to go to a restaurant nearby & suggested of visiting Whitefish water falls. It took about 10 minutes & we had our lunch with fish Burger & fries.  After then we went to Whitefish falls, which is nearby. It was a small one, but nice to visit.

There were some nice rock faces around & I was trying to revise my climbing skills to climb at the top :P. The view of the whole area was very pleasant from the top indeed.

We heard about Willsville village but didn't know the exact location. Based on the idea & maps we drove towards Willsville...

Now it was the real eye soothing sceneries everywhere. We parked the car & started walking through the hilly areas to capture some amazing moments.

The whole area was just like a live scene of some framed picture glued with the wall of dining room. Tourists could hardly be seen there, may be because it is out of publicity & commercialization. Probably that's why the place is still kind of virgin, calm & quiet. The view all around made me spellbound. We remained silent for a long time, were feeling the solitude of the place only...

The Sunlight was almost deemed when we realized that its time to go back to resort. Everywhere in the road there were potential subjects to take snaps!

At the end of the day in semi darkness the Widgawa area was looking mystic. Our cottage was just beside a small river (actually part of a big lake) & dense forest. The last rast rays of the Sun & the calm lake water made me feeling nostalgic.

Personally I don't like the last rays of Sun when I am outside home (sometimes it's being called "afternoon sadness"), but the beauty of the place made me forget everything. The sunset was so scenic at the lake...

The resort has their own canoe systems to explore the huge lake. Even people hire canoes for 3/4 days to travel till the core of La-Cloche. The multi coloured unused canoes beside the lake added an extra effect to the scenery.

We had a nice camp-fire at that night along with a French couple, a German guy & his mother, three of us (with an adorable dog & a lovely cat!). We were chatting with each other for a long time while baking Marshmallows with cookies. I wish if life was so simple!

Had our dinner with chicken nuggets & sandwiches, which we packed before. It was pretty much cold & I went inside the sleeping bag as soon as the dinner was over... although Ronnie da was trying to convince me to watch movies whole night, but I turned a deaf ear & went to the world of sleep sooner than I expected...

Day 2: 16th June, 2013: I woke up pretty much earlier, around 6.30 in the morning before anybody woke up from sleep. After freshened up I just came outside to have some fresh air. I can hardly remember when I last  witnessed such a nice morning in my life!

It was so soft & calm that I was feeling that I am in some outside world. Immediately went to room to take the camera & walked towards the lake. There were strange sounds of some unknown birds & animals. I really felt myself 'into the wild'...

Recorded the feel of the atmosphere through video & had some nice snaps of the cottage area.

By that time everybody woke up & the morning tea was made by Mohua di (the resort has a little kitchen). We decided to hire a canoe & explore a few hours, although all of us were amateurs in driving the canoe. We were given a 3 seated canoe with 3 paddles. They showed us how to drive, but initially we couldn't do anything. I was at the back to control the direction & had the full responsibility. In a few minutes I realized the trick & then became nearly a professional canoe expert. As we were driving through the tiny river, it was exactly like the experience of sailing on Amazon river through dense forest at the bank, trees leaning down the river, strange sounds of animals & birds, etc. In half an hour we were in the big lake. The place was extremely calm & quiet. Nevertheless to mention, it was one of the best experiences of my life...

As we canoed further, nice islands came into our visibility. We were driving at a slow speed to feel the place. It's really a lifetime experience!

There were some little houses on the other side of the lake which were looking very nice.

Explored for a few more hours & then felt tired of driving the canoe & decided to go back as it was also time to check out from the resort.

Had some fun pictures before leaving the boat...  :P

Were feeling really bad while leaving... Left some nice memories behind at Widgawa...

Again it was a very long drive while returning. Reached Toronto area in about 4 hours. Came back at 10 PM to London.
