“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” - Mark Twain
  • Note: I haven't got a chance to update this blog quite for a while. Recently I have started organizing things. Hopefully will update the "coming soon" pages of the blog soon :)

In an attempt to start documenting my trips (after the "digital picture" era started & I bought my first Nikon Coolpix digital camera in 2010), I started writing this blog around 2010-11. Being an amateur writer, at that time it was just an experiment to create a documentation of my travel stories. Slowly I realized that this can be a nice platform to express myself & share my views of travelling to different places. In fact I started travelling a lot (mostly solo) from 2012-13 & got addicted to travelling & writing. Being still an amateur, I'm trying to exploit all the opportunities to learn the art of writing every day. Probably you can notice the difference of writing of my blogs at the initial years, and more recent ones. I try to express whatever I've explored so far, both in terms of 'travelling to different places' & 'travelling through rich experiences'. Though I would really really like to describe myself as a destination-less traveller who hates travelling with fixed plans & intention of arriving shortly, but that's just a dialogue. In reality, time & money control everything ;). But for sure I never miss a single opportunity to travel anywhere. I don't have any "bucket list" as such. I believe that there are infinite things to see, & each place can have the potential to be in one's bucket-list. I really enjoy solo travelling. I believe that solo travelling is the best way to explore an unknown city, local people, food, atmosphere, & more philosophically the "feel" of the place. Also, the ultimate freedom is something that I can't compromise with anything else...

Apart from travelling, I am seriously passionate about high altitude mountaineering. In fact that's why I have named my blog as 'Aarohon' (it is a Bengali word, which means climbing). Another philosophy of naming my blog as 'Aarohon' is that, in every travel & expedition, I think I become a better person than I was before. That is to say, I am ascending or climbing the mountain of goals, humanity & ethical values of my life. I enjoy taking big risks in my  life (otherwise life gets boring). I have done basic mountaineering course (BMC) from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) Uttarkashi, and advanced mountaineering course (AMC) from Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute Of Mountaineering And Allied Sports (ABVIMAS) Manali, both with "A" grade.  I also used to do a bit of indoor climbing for a few years at the University of Western Ontario Climbing club. However I am mainly interested in high altitude mountaineering, and not purely rock climbing. I consider myself as an intermediate level rock climber. I can climb up to boulder difficulty level V4 (it depends if I am in regular practice or not) & wall difficulty level 5.10+ (both in North American standard). Recently I have been associated with Howrah District Mountaineers & Trekkers Association (HDMTA).
